Additional Notes
When using a sensor, the power to the sensor often must be provided separately. The GND for the sensor power supply should be connected to the Analog Input GND terminal (terminal 10).
2 Terminal 4-20mA Current Loop Sensor Wiring Guide
These sensors typically need to be powered via an external 24V DC power supply. If power for the sensor or PLC is internal to the device, you will only need to connect the ground and the sensor/device output. Please use shielded cables to avoid external induced noise.
When using two-terminal 4-20mA sensors or “transmitters” with this block, use the diagram below: Connect the ground of the external power supply to the ground pin (pin 10). Connect the ‘V-’ or ‘Sensor Out’ terminal to an input channel (pins 1-8). Connect the ‘V+’ terminal to the positive 24V DC output of the external power supply. Three-terminal sensors are the same: Connect ground to the Analog In GND terminal, and ‘Sensor Out’ to any input channel.
Aside from measuring a sensor’s output directly, a common application is to use 4-20mA transmitters to convert devices like thermocouples or RTD temperature sensors to a normalized 4-20mA signal. Multiple sensors can be wired in parallel from the same external power source and into the 8 channels of the Analog In block.
